Short Profile:
Sanath Jayasuriya is a legendary Sri Lankan cricketer who has tamed the ODI format since 1996. The Matara Mauler, as he is reverentially addressed, is an experienced campaigner who was instrumental in Sri Lanka’s victory in the 1996 World Cup. Starting off as a pinch hitter, he went on to establish his place in test history with a triple century against India in 1997.Jayasuriya can be devastating on any given day, especially with his authoritative cuts and pulls. He is also a cunning slow left-arm bowler, the only one to have achieved the double of 10000 runs and 300 wickets in ODIs. He made his international debut in 1989, and was the captain of the Sri Lankan team from 1999 to 2003. He retired from test cricket in 2007 to focus on limited overs cricket. He showed his class in the first IPL with a century off just 45 balls, giving blazing starting partnerships to the Mumbai Indians. Together with Sachin, he forms the most formidable opening pair of IPL II.
